Lord Krishna’s Teaching to Arjuna That Will Change Your Life [FOREVER]
In our lives, at some point or another, we are caught in situations where we start having self-doubts. We think of the worst things that can happen to us during a situation and feel like, in life, we will lose. Guess what? Krishna’s Teaching to Arjuna also happened during such a time when Arjuna was facing a similar situation. Arjuna was a Pandava warrior who was in a battle against his cousins, teachers and friends in Kurukshetra.
Just before the battle was going to begin, Arjuna became weak and helpless. He started questioning everything that was happening. He was wondering if killing his family members was right. At that moment, his confidant and mentor, Krishna, helped. Krishna’s lesson to Arjun guided him to take the right action.
Krishna’s Teaching To Arjuna is Even Relevant Today!
The Bhagavad Gita, which is also now regarded as the “way of life”, was actually a collection of the verses that Lord Krishna imparted to Arjuna when he was struggling on the field of Kurukshetra. That’s why you often see the Mahabharat Krishna Arjun painting, because it was a very crucial part of it.
You might think that these teachings happened hundreds of years ago, so why are they even valued today? This is because our modern struggles are also the same:
- Career problems
- Emotional attachments
- Judgment Fear
- Inner Conflict & so much more
The battlefield may have changed, but the problems then and now are still the same. This is the reason why the greatest teaching of Krishna continues to make sense even after so long, and it will continue to stay relevant in future.
Now, let us look at some of the lessons that Krishna gave to Arjuna.
Krishna’s Teaching to Arjuna: A Lesson Beyond the Battlefield
In this part, we will look at some of the teachings that can bring a change in our lives.
These are:
- Don’t become the slave of stress
- Be calm, no matter what
- Treat everyone equally
- Accept changes in life
- Conviction is power
Let’s go through them in a little depth, one by one.
1. Do not surrender or become a slave to stress.
As Lord Krishna Said:
“The one by whom others are not agitated and who is not agitated by others, who is free from joy, envy, fear, and anxiety, is also dear to Me.” (Bhagavad Gita Text - 12.15)
As you can read, this simply means an individual should keep a one-hand distance from excessive worries and not take on more than what they can handle. You should always take some time for yourself, where you can just sit in peace. When you are able to think clearly and are not afraid of stress or get very angry over little things, you will lead a better life, and who knows, even connect with the Almighty.
2. Staying calm is the only way.
As Krishan Bhagwan Ji Said:
“Undoubtedly, O Arjuna, the mind is restless and difficult to restrain, but it is subdued by any constant vigorous spiritual practice, such as meditation, with perseverance, and detachment, O Arjuna. (Bhagavad Gita Text - 6.35)”
We all know that the mind is so restless and it keeps thinking-creating difficult situations in mind and turning every situation into much worse. Hence, the first and most important step is to develop a clear, calm and collected mind. Whether you are in a problem or you are in a great situation you have to stay calm. This is not easy to achieve, and of course you will have to make constant effort. You can do it through meditation so that you shift your mind from the circumstance and observe what’s beyond it.
3. Treat Everyone Equally
Sri Krishna once said:
“A person is considered superior when he is impartial towards companions, friends, enemies, neutrals, arbiters, haters, relatives, saints, and sinners. (Bhagavad Gita Text - 6.09)”
In our lives, we meet many people who are from different backgrounds. Some become our friends, some enemies, and some just stay neutral. Lord Krishna advises us that we should consider everyone equally and be objective towards them. Then only can be superior. There is no place for discrimination. In today’s time, we may treat people at different levels (in the workplace or personal life) in different ways. But we should always be conscious of not treating them differently.
4. Be Ready To Accept Changes Anytime
Sri Bhagavan Krishna Said:
“Arjuna, when inertia is predominant, ignorance, inactivity, carelessness, and delusion arise.” (Bhagavad Gita Text - 14.13)
It is often seen that when things are going in a similar way for a long time, you start feeling stagnant. Hence, in life, “change” is very important. If you are stuck in your professional career for a long time or personal life, for that matter, you should change your trajectory and present yourself with something new.
5. Do everything with conviction.
Sri Bhagavan Krishna Said:
“Whatever is done without faith — whether it is sacrifice, charity, austerity, or any other act — is useless. It has no value here or hereafter, O Arjuna.” (Bhagavad Gita Text - 17.28)
In life, if there is anything you do, then you should do it with full faith. Nowadays, even when we are working on a new business plan, joining a new class or participating in a new activity, if we don’t have conviction towards it, then it won’t work well. So just believe in yourself, have conviction, and you have won half the battle.
